Christ-Centered Education

In keeping with the purpose of St. Paul Lutheran School, our curriculum begins with the Word of God. The truths of the Bible are taught throughout the day in all areas of the curriculum. It is our aim to instill into the hearts and minds of the children entrusted to us a Christian philosophy of life - a philosophy that will help them interpret and evaluate every experience from the Christian viewpoint.

Worship, prayer, and lessons from the Bible occur in each classroom daily. Memorization of Bible verses serves to imprint God’s word onto our hearts and minds. Wednesdays are special at St. Paul when students have the opportunity to come together as the body of Christ and worship and glorify His name!

All subjects are taught from a Biblical perspective while providing a rigorous academic program.

  • MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE are taught to help students better appreciate the orderly, intricate, and beautiful world God created for man to live in and to enjoy.
  • God created man in a setting where he interacts with other humans. ENGLISH and READING increase the student’s ability to communicate with his or her fellow man.
  • Human relationships are studied through a SOCIAL SCIENCE program, which includes studies in WORLD GEOGRAPHY and AMERICAN HISTORY.
  • God gave people many special talents and abilities. Skill in the use of these talents is developed through a program of COMPUTERS, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, ART, and MUSIC.

Basic Curriculum

Kindergarten through Fifth Grade are mandatory school years as determined by state law. As such, much of the curriculum and the time allotted to each subject are governed by the Maryland Department of Education. Within these guidelines, we are free to determine the types of textbooks and materials we use to carry out our program. We attempt to use current textbooks that are interesting and challenging to our students. Parents are encouraged to consult with their child’s teacher to discuss the particular emphasis at each grade level. The areas of the core curriculum include: Religion, Memory Work, Reading/Literature, English, Mathematics, General Science, Social Studies/Geography/History, Art, Computer Literacy, Music, and Physical Education.

In addition, there will be many group/centered activities for the student to engage in.
