School Dress Code

St. Paul Lutheran School believes that there is an important relationship between a student’s appearance and his/her attitude toward school and schoolwork. A student’s dress and appearance are expected to be neat, clean, and modest. In order to accomplish this goal, the following guidelines must be followed when purchasing clothes to be worn to school.

Clothing Requirements:

  1. Clothing must be appropriately sized for the individual including the correct size belt.
  2. Clothing must be in good condition.
  3. Clothing must be color coordinated.
  4. Socks must match in style and color.
  5. Shirts and blouses must be tucked in.
  6. Skirts, shorts, skorts, or jumpers shall not be higher than 3 inches above the top of the knee.
  7. Pants must be worn at the correct waist level and not be excessively long or short.
  8. Belts are to be worn with all bottoms made for belts and are to be worn at the appropriate level.

Requirements for Footwear:

  1. Shoes are to completely enclose the foot.
  2. Shoes must have flat soles of non-skid or rubber type material. (High heels or thick platform form shoes are not permitted.)
  3. Tennis shoes are permitted.
  4. Socks are required for all shoes and must be visible above the tops of the shoes. Girls may wear tights.
  5. Shoes with laces must be tied.
  6. Boots are permitted for snow or rain only. A change of shoes is required for indoors.

General Requirements for Girls:

  1. Shirts must be St. Paul Polo shirts with the school name embroidered on it.
  2. Skirts, jumpers, and skorts must be khaki in color.
  3. Pants may be twill or cotton polyester and must be khaki in color. (Cargo pants, painter pants, and zip off pants are not permitted.)
  4. Walking shorts must be khaki in color.
  5. Belts are required with all pants and shorts where belt loops are present and must be in solid colors of black, brown, or navy blue.
  6. Sweaters may be either a v-neck or cardigan in navy blue only and must be worn over a code compliant polo shirt.
  7. Socks or tights must be in solid colors of navy blue, black, brown, or white.
  8. Shoes must have backs and may be tennis shoes, docksiders, saddle shoes, oxfords, loafers, or Mary Janes. (Character or light-up shoes are NOT permitted.)

General Rules for All Students

  1. Make-up is not permitted.
  2. Jewelry should not be excessive in appearance and/or quantity or otherwise distracting.
  3. Girls may wear one earring per ear. Boys are not permitted to wear earrings. No other visible body piercing jewelry is permitted.
  4. Hair must be clean and neat. Boy’s hair length shall not fall below the top collar. Girl’s long hair must be kept neat, pulled back, or tied back. Dyed or unnaturally bleached hair will not be permitted.
  5. Visible tattoos or other markings, whether temporary or permanent, will not be permitted.
  6. The use of perfume or other scented products will not be permitted.
  7. Hats, bandanas, sweat bands, or scarves may not be worn indoors.
