Stephen Schafer, Pastor

I was born in Rock Island, Illinois but I grew up in Miami, Florida. After receiving a degree in marketing from the University of Florida, I returned to Miami and became involved in ministry, teaching Middle School and doing youth work at St. Matthews Lutheran. There I met and was blessed to marry my wife Ana Julia, the new teacher on staff. A year later we left for St. Louis where I attended Concordia Seminary. I was first called to Ocala, Florida to develop a new mission congregation, which became Our Redeemer Lutheran and I became their first pastor. In 1998 I accepted the call to become pastor here at St. Paul Lutheran. I have two wonderful daughters and son-in-laws and a grandson.

I love the opportunities of bringing Jesus and His reconciling love to people’s lives. Sometimes I think I am still a teacher at heart, I love teaching about Jesus and the depth and riches of God’s Word. Bringing Jesus to people in our worship services and helping to provide God’s people the setting to inspire their worship is also a special love of mine. I also have an interest in helping people with addictive behaviors.

I have a broad range of interests. I like to read, cook, fish, and do wood work. I am a University of Florida and lifetime Baltimore Orioles fan. I always look forward to spending time with my family and traveling with my wife.

Barbara Haar, Minister of Parish Life

Barb HaarI grew up in Iowa. My dad was a Pastor, so we moved around the state. I attended Concordia Teacher’s College in Nebraska, where I received a Bachelor of Science, majoring in childhood and elementary education with a minor in science. My first call was to teach 5th grade at St. Paul Lutheran School here in Catonsville, Maryland, and then repositioned to teach 6th grade and middle school science. A few years later I became the secretary of St. Paul. From 1996 to present I work as the Minister of Parish Life, focusing on Christian Education, Youth and Outreach. My family includes my husband, Steve, and children, Jon, David and Aaron.

My joy in ministry includes helping children learn about Jesus, encouraging members of our congregation to define their personal ministry, and connecting people to Jesus.

In my spare time, I enjoy fishing, quilting, gardening and making cards.

Renata O’Reilly, Organist & Choir Director

I Renata OReilly grew up in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and have been the Organist and Choir Director at St. Paul Lutheran Church since September, 2004.  I am also organist at St. Mark’s Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baltimore, EELK Baltimore Markuse Kogudus.  I have studied piano and organ at Hobe Sound Bible College, Florida Atlantic University, University of Minnesota, and The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.  An exhilarating form of recreation for me is riding with my husband, Walt, on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. I also treasure visiting art museums and attending operas, ballets, dance and classical concerts. For me, they are sparkling springs of inspiration and a reason for being.
